Milling Cutter Inserts/Holders
Milling inserts and holders are a part of cutting tools in milling machines. Cutting tooth (inserts or heads) are attached to a main unit (holder), which is then attached to a machine tool such as a machining center with a tool holder (chuck and the like) to cut metals, etc., by rotating. One type has cutting tips to be replaced, and the other has a head (end) section to be entirely replaced; some of the former type come with an arbor (a shank section) while others have a separate arbor. Materials used for the cutting tooth include carbide type, cermet or ceramics with excellent abrasion and heat resistance; materials with toughness are mainly used for rough cutting, and those with abrasion resistance are used for finishing. It is necessary to select the cutting tooth according to the materials of work material and machining details. Inserts or heads that have worn out can be easily replaced since they are fixed with screws, etc.
